(2017)2017 - S.w.a.t.

S.W.A.T. (2017) is an American action drama television series that premiered on CBS as a modern reboot of the 1975 series and the 2003 film of the same name. Developed by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Shawn Ryan, the show stars Shemar Moore as Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, a Los Angeles local tasked with leading a highly skilled Special Weapons and Tactics unit. The series is notable for blending high-octane police procedurals with nuanced social commentary, particularly regarding the tensions between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the narrative begins when Hondo is promoted to lead the team following an accidental shooting involving his predecessor. This promotion is partly a PR move by the LAPD to bridge the gap between the police and the Black community, as Hondo grew up in the very neighborhoods he now patrols. Throughout its run, the show explores Hondo’s dual loyalty to his "brothers in blue" and his community, often tackling themes of racial profiling, police reform, and urban politics.
