In 1949, the gates of , a grim boarding school for "troubled" boys in rural France, creak open for Clément Mathieu, a failed musician turned supervisor. He enters a world ruled by the iron-fisted Headmaster Rachin, whose philosophy of "Action – Reaction" metes out swift, harsh punishment for every minor infraction.

One morning, Mathieu finds himself facing a classroom of defiant eyes and hidden pranksters.
