Fox was a member of Scott Fischer's "Mountain Madness" expedition during the infamous May 1996 blizzard. After summiting on her 39th birthday, she was caught in a massive storm during the descent.
She was the first American woman to reach the summits of Gasherbrum II (1994), Cho Oyu (1995), and Mount Everest (1996).
