Taylor Swift famously altered a line in her re-recording ( Taylor's Version ), changing "She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress" to "He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches" to reflect her growth, focusing more on the action of sabotage rather than slut-shaming.
When I finally unveiled my "revenge," it wasn't a scandal or a fight. It was a song. re-writing Better Than Revenge, here's my go at
I never saw it coming. I thought we were the headline act; I didn’t realize we were just filler. I underestimated her. I thought she was just another admirer, but she was a collector.
I remembered the lessons I’d learned about how "sophistication isn’t what you wear, or who you know, or pushing people down to get you where you wanna go". I watched her strut around, "a saint" only in her own mind, taking what wasn’t hers, assuming I would just fade away. I let her have the applause. I let her take the boy. And then, I took back the story. She thought I’d be the "gloomy drama queen"
It was a catchy, fast-paced anthem that turned her into a cautionary tale. She was "better known for the things that she does", and suddenly, the playground was full of whispering, looking at her differently. She realized that "stealing other people’s toys" has consequences.
